STATE MEDICAL INSTITUTIONS OF HIGH EDUCATIONAL OF UKRAINE

University is a higher medical institution holding. This is an educational and research center providing undergraduate and postgraduate training for medical doctors, dental medical doctors and pharmacists. There are more than 12,000 undergraduate students, including more than 2,000 international students, more than 150 PhD students, as well as 200 clinical fellows. University provides preparatory courses; medical training as well as postgraduate education. The teaching staff is represented by more than 1300 professionals. Of these, more than 200 are doctors of medical science (>140 professors), >800 – PhD of medical science (>300 associate professors). There are full members of state Academies of Sciences, and corresponding members of the public Academies of Sciences, members of foreign academies, associations and other international associations, honored workers and sciences and technology, Honored inventor of Ukraine, winners of state prizes of Ukraine.

Higher State Educational Establishment of Ukraine «Bukovinian State Medical University» (BSMU) is one of the largest higher educational establishments of Chernivtsi. It is a modern multisectoral educational institution, included into the general register of the WHO, European University Association (EUA), Magna Charta Universitatum (Bologna, Italy), the Association of the Carpathian Region Universities that provides qualified training according to the grade system of education in the field 222 “Healthcare”.

Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University (LNMU) is one of the oldest and largest medical universities in Ukraine. It originates from the Medical Faculty of Lviv University (founded in 1784). Today LNMU prepares doctors and pharmacists at six faculties – two Medical, Dentistry, Pharmacy (full-time and external form of education), Foreign Students and Postgraduate Education. The University consists of 78 departments (including 47 clinical ones), clinical bases of departments in Lviv, Volyn and Rivne regions, Research Institute of Epidemiology and Hygiene (the Research Institute includes: scientific laboratories - transmissible viral infections; rickettsial infections; microbiology and epidemiology; diphtheria; sanitary toxicology; department of epidemiology of tuberculosis clinic and specialized polyclinic of phthisiopulmonology profile with clinical diagnostic laboratory, «Ricketts strains and arboviruses collection” and “Corinebacterium strain collection”), Medical College, Preparatory Department of Foreign Students, Dental Medical Center, Central Research Laboratory and Laboratory of Industrial Toxicology, Laboratory of Electron Microscopy; Centers: International Relations and Eurointegration, Pharmaceutical Care and Health Innovations, Biostatistics, Simulation Training; Department of Pharmaceutical Education and Research, Scientific Library, Department of Practice, 6 museums incl. Museum of Human Diseases, which is included in the register of national heritage of Ukraine, Department of Communication and Promotion, Botanical Garden, Vivarium. About 3013 persons are employed at the departments of the University, the Central Research Laboratory and Laboratory of Industrial Toxicology, the Dental Medical Center and the Medical College, including 1365 scientific and pedagogical staff: 180 DSc, 794 PhD, 139 professors, 446 associate professors. Based on the number of papers published in international journals, according to the latest registry of the Scopus scientific metric database, LNMU is ranked second among medical and 11th among all universities in Ukraine, the Hirsch index is 43.

Our department focused on preparation of highly qualifi ed leaders in healthcare and health-related professions, competent in modern system changes and innovative management models. The objective of the department is to provide people with a high level of analytical skills, as well as practical knowledge. The department off ers master’s program – Public Administration in Health Care.

Dnipropetrovsk Medical Academy of Health Ministry of Ukraine is the center of education, science and culture in highly developed industrial region. DMA is one of the oldest educational institutions of Ukraine. DMA was founded on September 15, 1916. Institution gained the status of Academy in 1920. Over the years DMA has trained more than 50000 doctors, pharmacists and nurses. Nowadays DMA is one of the leading medical universities in Ukraine with continuous training of specialists at three levels: undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate. Faculty of Biomedical Engineering was established December 24, 2002 joint agreement between the National Medical University O.O. Bohomolets and the National Technical University of Ukraine “Kyiv Polytechnic Institute”. We are working in the fi eld of biomedical engineering, medical and biological informatics, cybernetics, and physical rehabilitation.

Ivan Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University is a leading institution of higher medical education in Ukraine, which has been training highly qualified specialists in the field of medicine for over 60 years.

TNMU provides powerful technical infrastructure and research facilities that meet the world standards for specialists training. Today, its premises include 20 buildings, 12 of them being academic buildings with spacious classrooms and modern laboratories, University Hospital, Dental Department of the University Hospital, Sports Facility with a well-equipped gym. Other University’s affiliates include the "Ukrmedknyha" publishing house, University Library, Education and Recreation Center "Chervona Kalyna". Clinical departments are housed in medical institutions of Ternopil region. Training Centre for Medical Simulation, equipped according to the world standards, provides excellent learning opportunities for TNMU students.
For the first time in Ukraine, the University has introduced an Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE), which gives the basis for practical certification of future physicians.
In 2019, training of pre-hospital care instructors has been initiated jointly with the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
TNMU is the only university in Ukraine where distance learning is widely and effectively used.
In 2018, TNMU became the first in Ukraine to start training paramedics, and in 2019, it was the first to launch Master’s in public health program.
The University is one of the centers of medical science in the western region of Ukraine. Scientific research is focused on the priority fields of natural and medical sciences. Student research activities are largely fostered, Student Scientific Society actively functions at the University.
TNMU is a participant in many international scientific projects implemented on a grant basis. 12 scientific journals issued on the Open Journal System platform are published at the University.
Students have the opportunity to engage in sports, participate in various competitions, and take active rest. TNMU organizes a variety of student leisure activities: such as Club of the Funny and Inventive, beauty contests, entertaining events, arts exhibitions, fairs and many others.
TNMU was the first to organize the International Student Summer School camp hosting medical students from all over the world.
TNMU is a member of the European Association of Universities. It has joined the Great Charter of Universities. TNMU participates in the Baltic University Program, cooperates with 85 foreign partners. Kharkiv Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education (KhMAPE) provides training courses for doctors and pharmacists in internship, specialization courses, qualifi cation test preparatory courses and advanced training courses in 109 specialities. The Academy trains specialists in clinical residency, master courses, PhD and Doctor of Medical sciences courses as for Ukraine and also for foreign countries. The KhMAPE also provides the second higher education in speciality Management in Healthcare. Medical College of the Academy graduates junior specialists and bachelors (nurse) in the speciality “Medical nurse” as for Ukraine and also for foreign countries.
