The Institute was established in 1920. The Institute is the chief authority in Ukraine for the area of radiology, holds a clinic for 220 in-patients and consulting polyclinics, and provides a highly specialized medical help to population using all available medical radiation technologies and other methods of combined treatment of cancer and radiation pathology. The Institute’s research is focused on problems of radiation oncology, radiation diagnostics, nuclear medicine, clinical radiobiology, clinical dosimetry and radiation hygiene of medical staff and patients. The Institute serves as a place of professional training in relevant specialties, publishes the Ukrainian Journal of Radiology and is a founder of the Ukrainian Society of Radiation Oncologists.

The Institute is a leading research organization in this country, in which investigations concerning the problem health care of schoolchildren and adolescents have been carried out and coordinated. Improving qualifi cation skills of specialists as well as rendering highly skilled medical and consulting assistance to children and adolescents are also provided at the Institute. The main trends of the Institute’s activity are as follows: defi nition of regularities of health formation in schoolchildren; working out new methods for prevention, diagnosis, prognosis of the course and treatment of the most common diseases in puberty; medical and psychological rehabilitation of children and adolescents with severe diseases; and scientifi c substantiation of the most eff ective forms of health care for children and adolescents. The State Institute of Genetic and Regenerative Medicine of NAMS of Ukraine is a state-run research institution, aiming to develop and introduce newest gene and cell technologies into basic science and practical medicine. Gene Technologies Department is engaged in creating and introducing gene therapy methods and new biotechnological preparations (single-chain monoclonal antibodies, affi ne sorbents). Genetic Diagnostics Department studies gene polymorphism infl uences on organism’s disposition to onset of numerous diseases, clinic, drug sensitivity and specifi cities of treatment. Cell and Tissue Technologies Department studies possibilities for clinical use of stem cells and elaborates methods for directed diff erentiation aiming at renewal of damaged organs and tissues.

State institution “Institute of Hematology and Transfusiology of the NAMS of Ukraine” - the famous scientifi c center. The institution conducts research in the fi eld of clinical haematology, hemostasiology, cryopreservation of blood cells, clinical and production transfusiology. Provided specialized care to patients, the training of specialists for health care institutions. Medical care to patients with disorders of the hemostasis system is one of the main directions of the Institute, which involved two department of the Institute – the department of hemophilia and other coagulopathies and department of surgical Hematology and hemostasiology. Every year they treated more than 1,000 patients.

Institute of Nephrology NAMSU, SI is leading scientifi c and treatment institution of Ukraine in the fi eld of kidney diseases. It consists of 4 departments, 4 laboratories and 2 clinical departments. There are 11 doctors of medical sciences, 8 professors and 25 candidates of medical sciences. Institute works for improve organization of nephrological care in Ukraine and quality of nephrological practice. In 2002 was created National register of patients with CKD, which was included in the European Register in 2006; the classifi cation of urinary tract diseases and morphology classifi cation of kidney diseases it was accepted by stuff of the Institute in 2005. The Clinical guidelines and authorized Standards and Protocols of treatment patients with CKD V on HD were created in 2011.

The fi rst psychoneurological SRI in Ukraine, was established in 1922. Among the founders of the Institute there were well-known scientists-neurologist, psychiatrists, physiologist, neurosurgeons. Since 1977 the Director is Prof. P. Voloshyn, MD, PhD, DMSc, Hon. Worker of Science and Techniques of Ukraine, Laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine, President of Scientifi c Society of Neurologists, Psychiatrists and Narcologists of Ukraine. Develops priority problems of neurology, psychiatry and narcology: vascular pathology, multiple sclerosis, alcoholism and drug dependence; suicidology, depressive and posttraumatic stress disorders.
